7 website red flags quietly scaring customers away

Checklist · 5 min read ·

Your website might be actively costing you jobs. Not because it's ugly — because of small signals that tell visitors you're not the safe choice. Check yours against this list tonight.

1. It loads slower than three seconds

Half your mobile visitors give up before your homepage finishes. Test it on your phone over cellular, not office wifi. If it crawls, so does your revenue.

2. No phone number visible without scrolling

A ready-to-hire customer is looking for one thing: how to call. If your number lives in the footer under twelve sections, you're making motivated buyers do homework.

3. Copyright year says 2019

The fastest 'this business might be dead' signal on the internet. It takes ten seconds to fix and quietly undermines everything else on the page.

4. Photos that aren't yours

Stock photography says template, and template says low effort. Real photos of your actual team, trucks, storefront, and work convert dramatically better — customers recognize their own neighborhood.

5. Walls of text about you

Visitors scan for what you can do for THEM. Paragraphs about your founding story before any mention of services or pricing lose readers in seconds. Story matters — but earn attention first.

6. No proof anywhere

Reviews, testimonials, before/after photos, 'as seen in' — social proof isn't vanity, it's how strangers decide to trust you. Zero proof reads as zero history.

7. It looks broken on a phone

Over 70% of local searches happen on mobile. Pinch-zooming, sideways scrolling, and microscopic buttons send customers straight to a competitor whose site respects thumbs.

Count how many your site has: four or more means you're not losing theoretical points, you're losing actual phone calls. Every one of these is fixable inside a proper rebuild.
